I'm sorry if nobody gets this but some things just don't make sense in English. |

Why is it so easy to say and do things in the passion of the moment, even when you know that it will cause pain?
What is it about the human psyche that seeks vengeance? Retribution never furthered any respectable causes. There is no satisfaction in placing blame, perpetuating spite, or holding ill will.
But why do people do it? Is it justice or is it a defense mechanism? Is it only human, or can we do without?
I would like to think that I can do without. So to all those who I have sought to pay back, I am sorry.
I hate drama and nobody deserves any part of it. I will try to be a better person. |

My wallet's been on a diet since summer. I haven't had a steady job for a while it's starting to get to me. Why is it so hard to find a job in Santa Cruz? Fortunately my tax return came yesterday and soon I'll be getting paid for a wedding I shot a couple of weeks ago. Intermediate Drawing has been a growing experience this quarter. This is my first upper division class and my first exposure to abstraction in the class room. My goal has been to try new methods in art. It's funny to see how everyone segregates during critiques. The abstractionists on one side, the representativists on the other... There's this one guy who draws a circle and line on a paper about 8 feet long and calls it "homesickness". I think it's hilarious but the teacher just laps it up. This quarter has also been about getting in touch with my Jewish roots. My Torah study class has led me to a program called Birth Right to Israel. This summer I will be going on a free 10-day trip to Israel. Excitement!!! My roots-finding has also gotten me into helping out at the Leviathan- the on campus Jewish journal.
In addition to the above mentioned hullabaloo, I am changing my major. As of next quarter I will be double majoring in Art and Cultural Anthropology. Huzzah! |

"Blessed are You, HaShem, our G-d, King of the Universe, Who formed man with intelligence, and created within him many openings and many hollow spaces; it is revealed and known before the Seat of Your Honor, that if one of these would be opened (that should be closed) or if one of these would be sealed (that should be opened) it would be impossible to survive and to stand before You (even for one hour). Blessed are You, HaShem, Who heals all flesh and does wonders."
Jews truly do think of everything. As discovered in my Torah Study class today, they even have a prayer for reciting after making use of the lavatory. It feels like summer has arrived in Santa Cruz, memories of summers past have been rushing through my head lately, funny how I don't remember there being a spring this year. But it's ok, I like summer more. look for more pictures to come. |

Wow, it's definitely been a while. It never ceases to amaze me how fast the time can go. School has been fine so far this quarter. I am taking "Psychology & Religion", "Intro to Ecology", and "Intro to Electronics for Intermedia".
Psych & Religion seems to have a lot of answers to the everyday questions I always used to ask myself and wonder about. My teacher's a total nutcase, a good one though. I'm considering taking a philosophy class in the future. I'm into the heavy. Next quarter will be "Intro to Developmental Psych" and I can't make up my mind between Intermediate Photo or Intermediate Drawing... probably the photo class, it's been too long.
I just finished Franny and Zooey today. This concludes my reading of J. D. Salinger's work. I just wish I could meet his characters and have a conversation with them sometimes. That man is genius. Now I need something new to read.
Has anyone heard about the protests that have been going on down here in Santa Cruz? It's really sad what they're trying to do regarding the “development”. They’re raising everybody’s tuition to spend $80 billion on a biomed building for grad students, another gym, and more housing for 4,500 more students. And they’ll be clear-cutting half the remaining forest.
Thanksgiving is eminent, I'm looking forward to that. |

Yessssssss! School is finally out!
My last final was last Tuesday and I moved back the following Wednsday. I'm am very much looking forward to this summer. I just saw Derek whom I haven't seen since December. I'm back to work with money in the bank. Friday I will be on a plane to Costa Rica! Yes! We're almost done with the planning and packing. I will be catching SO many bugs there. They evan have a whole museum dedicated to insects. And with my new telephoto lens I'll be getting pictures of Quetzals, monkies, leatherback turtles, and maybe evan dolphins!
And with any luck I'll shoot some more weddings this summer. If anyone knows people getting married and need a photographer... I'm the guy. I promise I'll post pictures next time. It'll be after my trip. But for now I'll unpack and clean my room. |

So i'm home just chillin'. I'll be here until Sunday when i get back to school.
I haven't been up to very much. Frankly, I'm pretty bored. But I have been doing some photography. I'm trying a new technique called HDR which stands for High Dynamic Range. -More on HDR- It's purpose is to expand the limited luminance latitude allowed by digital sensors because there's just no comparison to film. (This is why a lot of digital photos will have really dark spots or really lights spots) By putting the camera on a tripod and taking multiple shots of the same subjects but at different exposures I get quality data for the shadows, midtones, and highlights in that photo. Stitching together the corrects exposures for each part of the image results in 1 photo with essentially a larger range of latitude capturing detail that would have been lost in one or more parts of the photo.

Damn....
So this quarter is nearly over with. And what do i have to show?
I went to the Of Montreal concert I made decent $, though that job (photo equipment check-out guy) is over because my work-study grant is dried up I went to another photoshop class- this time taught by Maggie Tayler, wife of the Master of photography: Jerry Uelsmann shot another graveyard in an adventure with Derek, this time in HDR I made 3-D art for my class! i never make sculptural peices... I cut my hair short I got new glasses I've started working out... oh yeah... My website is really comming along: www.bordenphoto.com (This is where i put all my photos now) and etc.
What's comming up with me?... I should hear back from my prospective new job soon. I will be going to prom with Katrina in a couple of weeks. I'm in for free because i'll be shooting for yearbook! I just applied for my passport today so i'll be ready for Costa Rica in July!
That's most of it. And as for this weather I'm starting to feel like nothing could ever get me down. I mean holy shit- Santa Cruz is sunny, warm, and just slightly breezy. Spring quarter is going to kick ass. i should really start my essay now. |

well it's been a while since my last substantial post now hasn't it???!!!
Not a whole lot is going down in city of yippies and hippies. School has me by the balls- i swear if i have to write more than 4 more essays... I saw Borat they other night with some friends, it was a cheap laugh. Katrina visited last weekend which was verrry nice. I always love Tai food and mini golf. So i think i'm getting a second job, the interview went really well a few days ago. I will be in charch of rental photography equipment at the photo department here. Can you say free equipment rentals?? like medium format cameras?!! Enrollment has been a FAT pain in the ASS. I bearly made it into pre-calc, and i'll be taking 3D art foundation. I'm supossed to be taking a lower-division studio but there are none available so i'm currently fighting for intermidiate PHOTO.
Turkey day break was alright. I flew to Pheonix to meet up with some family. UNFORTUNATELY, Pancho couldn't make it- he had finals. We were supossed to get our tattoos together. But his brother made it up so at least i had someone around my age to chill with. I did get sick though. And my parents went looking at houses, they've been planning to move down there for years and it looks like they'll be moving within a year. It's scaring knowing that your home in California will not be home anymore. But i'll stay here in Santa Cruz for school.
So other than that i just wich i'd stop fucking sneezing and i like the rain. Huzzah for crazy warm Nazi jackets. |

So things have been dandy down here amidst the redwoods. I actually just got back from Benicia for the homecoming dance with Katrina, which was very nice. I visited my favorite teachers and they seem to be doing well. Mrs Fewins is stressed as usual, Mr. Thompson is crazy as usual, Mrs. Thomas is nice/crazy, and Mr. Archer is good ol' Mr. Archer. i really miss high school- i never thought i'd be one to miss it so much but i do. I'm planning on putting up some halloween pictures here soon but the internet is not working in my room right now. i should probably get on my homework |

so i've put myself under the magnifying glass. It's tough to think about some things. How am i feeling? it's more complicated than it sounds. I'm busy, so i don't have time to dwell. I miss the past. I miss friends and family. i miss the feeling after snapping my camera's shutter and just knowing deep down inside "that was an awesome photo". i don't get that anymore. i havn't finished a painting in almost a year. I've got the best hall-mates here and we're always around with eachother, i'm in the "creative group" for day of the dead festival, i have work and homework, i'll be painting a mural on the Porter walls soon, and i have my own personal art projects... but it still feels empty. that comfort and security of high school is definitely not present here. Time to be a grown up. |

So.....
Right now i'm in my hallmate's room and just killing time between classes. I started my new JOB yesterday. i'm a graphics assistant for the department chair of biomolecular engineering. I have my own office, with a view, where i basically play on photoshop for a couple hours a day. I can't complain. My classes are pretty nice. I especially enjoy my psych instructor- he's this nerdy old hawaiian guy. i.e. a student asked he what we should know for a quiz and he drew us a ven diagram w/ two parts consisting of "lecture notes" and "text notes" and tried explaining it for 5 minutes. Art class is unexpectedly not a studio class, so we learn about history/theory of art. my core class is intense, it's all about identity, ideologies, and perceptions. a lot of work, but i enjoy the subject matter. that's about it for now. maybe some more photos later. |

Wow. This place is Amazing. I honestly could not have asked for a better place for college.
I live in the "bat caves" of Porter college which is a semi-underground floor very cool. only 6 guys live here the other room at the end of the hall is empty because some crazy art student supposedly comitted suicide there. I'm right next door to the bathroom and down the hall from the laundry room- very convinient. I learned about the local tradions while on the "tour" here yesterday including: First Rain, when everyone runs around naked at night during the first rain of the season. We have "woodsies" who are hobos that live in tree houses in the forest. There's supossedly some "meaning of life" message at the top of this giant totem pole. There's the 4:20 medeow. etc. etc. And there are bob cats, mountain lions, deer, racOOns! here are some pics...

Warning: this is something of a rant
So i've been negotiating with this group of people to photograph their wedding. I've been talking to the couple and the bride's mom, mostly the mom. I hate!!! it when people try to bargain for a set price- especially when it's already half of the going rate. This lady's been coming up with every excuse and just trying soooo hard to cut me out of a very fair price. She's even tried to guilt trip me. She says the couple is paying for it themselves, yet she's the only one returning my e-mails and phone calls...? I gave her my contact info a month ago, I move out tomorrow and she's waited to the last minute- until i e-mailed her saying i'm out of the deal to finally agree on a price. bullshit. i don't have the time, and i don't need the money, or the problems.
Besides that.... I'm packing up suitcases and boxes. i'm about to put my MINI fridge in the car. Still need to do a ton of laundry. this is it 7:00 AM manana i'm out of here. |

I had my wisdom teeth removed yesterday. it turns out i'm allergic to vicadin so i lost my dinner last night. Everything seems to be going fine. i just cant eat anything other than bread and jello. My cheeks are huge and painful but that should go down in a few days. Exactly one week from now my 20-min. parking permit for moving my shit out of the car and into my dorm will expire. i'm starting to come to terms with that. i still have a lot of things i need to do. I've been out of it lately, just feeling uninspired. but that's what happens when i have nothing to do. today i'll be going to a night game with my favorite person. i think it'll be fun- haven't been to a game in way too long. |
